A former New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) employee from Oceanside was sentenced to three years’ probation Wednesday for scrapping state property for thousands of dollars.
Anthony Agornyo pleaded guilty in November to taking objects like light poles and cabinets from a DOT yard in Hauppauge between 2022 and 2023.
The state says Agornyo took the items to a nearby recycling center and scrapped them for $3,800.
Agornyo has since repaid the money.
