The Suffolk District Attorney is investigating several cases of alleged police brutality against Fire Island's Ocean Beach Police Department.
Suffolk DA Thomas Spota says his office has been investigating the entire department since 2004. He says there are several officers he suspects have been engaged in extraordinary amounts of beatings.
New York City tourist Sam Gilberd says he was beaten by Ocean Beach cops in the summer of 2005. He claims he was so severely beaten over a littering fine protest that his bladder ruptured. Gilberd is suing the police department and all charges against him have been dropped.
