Residents in a Bay Shore neighborhood woke up to a crime scene Saturday as police were investigating a woman shot dead in her home.Suffolk police found 28-year-old Sonia Garcia, an NYPD officer, dead of a gunshot wound to the chest. They found her in a bedroom of her Ackerson Boulevard home just after 6 a.m. Police say they received a 911 call from Garcia's live-in fiancé, also an NYPD cop, telling them she had just been shot.
Investigators spent most of Saturday searching inside and outside the house for clues.
A neighbor says Garcia and her fiancé, Alex Chaparro, were planning to get married in May. She says the couple had recently moved into the home and has three young children from previous relationships.
Police say the children were not home at the time of the shooting. They also say Chaparro, 27, was questioned and released. They have no suspects in the case.
