A former NYPD police officer from Bay Shore pleaded guilty Wednesday to killing his fiancee.
As part of his deal with prosecutors, Alexis Chaparro will serve 10 years in prison in the shooting death of 28-year-old Sonia Garcia, who was also a police officer with the New York City Police Department.
Chaparro pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter after originally being charged with second-degree murder.
Suffolk County prosecutors said Chaparro shot Garcia in the chest in September 2007. Police said they received a 911 call from Chaparro, telling them Garcia had just been shot.
