Police say 33-year-old Diego Sandoval Nava was stabbed at a deli on Hegeman Avenue in East New York.

They say the stabbing happened around 3:07 p.m. They say he was stabbed multiple times in the stomach and taken to the hospital where he later died.

Mosheer Alnassar, works at the deli and says he is still trying to process the tragedy.

“I was scared. How could that happen? We don't have that much trouble in the store like this. The first time ever happened in the store with our family," said Alnassar.

Workers tell News 12 the man who died was an employee at the deli and also a father.

Resident Rocko Seymour says scenes like this are uncommon in the area.

“I often pass it every time I go to the laundromat or to the grocery store. So for there to be some sort of a crime or something to render somebody injured or dead, you know, it's kind of crazy," said Seymour.

Police say they're looking for a male suspect.
