A Bay Shore father and son pleaded guilty Thursday in connection to a drunk-driving crash on Sunrise Highway that killed one person and seriously injured another.

Brian August, 20, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide, manslaughter, assault and aggravated driving while intoxicated. His father, Brian Kitchen, 43, pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment.

Prosecutors said that on the night of April 19, 2025, Kitchen gave his then-19-year-old son vodka while they were together in his Bentley.

Authorities said August was driving eastbound on Sunrise Highway in Massapequa when he stopped at a red light in the left-turn lane near Unqua Road.

He then suddenly veered right across multiple lanes of traffic and slammed into a Polaris Slingshot, a three-wheel motorcycle.

The driver of the Slingshot, 48-year-old Willie Singleton, was ejected from the vehicle. He was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Singleton’s wife, who was riding in the passenger seat, had injuries to her hips and legs. She underwent emergency surgery and a metal rod implant. Prosecutors say she now frequently relies on a wheelchair or walker.

Police arrested August at the scene. A blood sample taken about four hours after the crash showed a blood-alcohol concentration of .20% — more than twice New York’s legal limit.

Investigators determined August had drank shot after shot of vodka inside the Bentley, some given to him by his father.

Police recovered a 1.75-liter bottle of vodka and numerous empty 50 mL vodka bottles from the vehicle.

August is expected back in court on Sept. 24 and faces a potential prison sentence of 4 1/2 to 12 years, though the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office has recommended a term of seven to 15 years.

Kitchen is expected to be sentenced to one year in jail.
