NYC Department of Health plans to close Tremont District Health Center
With the first day of school less than two weeks away, a local Bronx leader is fighting to keep the Tremont District Health Center operational for low-cost immunizations and vaccines.
The Tremont clinic is one of two immunization clinics the city's Department of Health plans to close. It has recently been operating on a scaled-back schedule.
Council Majority Leader Joel Rivera says Queens and Bronx clinics are on the chopping block because there isn't enough funding in the city budget. Rivera says the Tremont clinic is essential, and many low-income residents depend on it.
Rivera says he is working with the clinic workers' union DC-37 to raise awareness and hopefully save the center.
