NUMC doctors issue tick infestation warning
Doctors at Nassau University Medical Center warned the public Wednesday of a possible tick infestation this summer season.
They say the reason for the heightened alert is due to an expected longer summer season.
If diagnosed early, Lyme disease can be treated with antibiotics. If nothing is done, doctors say it can lead to long-term problems.
Experts say people should take preventative actions, such as wearing light-colored clothing in wooded areas.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the highest number of Lyme disease cases in the nation is in New York.
