North Bellmore residents are calling for faster action at an intersection they say is dangerous.
They say the intersection of Bellmore Avenue and Davenport Place isn't designed well, and that there are a lot of accidents.
Neighbors say as many as five accidents have happened at the intersection last year because the way Bellmore Avenue curves makes it difficult for traffic from Davenport Place to enter the roadway.
They say cars have to creep out in an unsafe manner to see if any traffic is coming, and that there should be a traffic light.
Nassau County previously studied the intersection and said a light is not warranted. Local legislators say the number of accidents could make the county reconsider.
Nassau Legislator Tom McKevitt says the county is studying the intersection again but doesn't know if engineers will recommend a light. He says after multiple recent accidents, something needs to be done.
"I believe we have actually tipped the point under the traffic engineering standards where a light is necessitated," said McKevitt.
News 12 reached out to the county Department of Public Works on the status of its study on the intersection and is waiting to hear back.
