People whose relatives were killed rallied with community and church leaders in North Amityville Sunday to call for violence to end.
Songs and prayers filled the air in an effort to make young people aware of the human cost of guns. Another way the community is sowing the seeds of peace is with a garden on East Street. Gloria Green?s 14-year-old granddaughter Danielle Baker is remembered at the garden with a sign. The teen was gunned down by a suspected gang member at a birthday party in April. Jacqueline Hamilton shares Green's pain. Her 17-year-old son was killed on Mother?s Day.
Community members called on politicians to help fund after-school programs to occupy children when adults are likely at work.
