The Centereach man accused of stabbing a Suffolk police officer during a traffic stop was ordered held without bail.
As News 12 reported, Officer Christopher Racioppo tried to pull over Jonathan Nunez Saturday night in Patchogue. Police say Nunez pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the thigh.
Racioppo was rushed into emergency surgery. A doctor says the officer would have died if the artery that was severed had not been controlled within 20 minutes.
Matt Hereth, Nunez' attorney, entered a not guilty plea for his client during his arraignment Tuesday. Hereth says he reserves the right to make a future bail application. Nunez is facing 25 years in prison.
Officer Racioppo is still under careful watch at Stony Brook Hospital.
