A NIFA board today approved Nassau County's 2014 budget, but the stamp of approval came with an ultimatum.

The watchdog agency says the county must make some serious changes before it gets the final go-ahead. NIFA says the county must come up with $30 million in recurring savings. It is giving lawmakers 60 days to make the changes and re-submit the budget.

In a statement, a spokesman for County Executive Ed Mangano says, "The administration will continue to work with NIFA to clean up the mess inherited from prior administrations without burdening residents with more property taxes."
