The Islanders are closing in on a return to Nassau Coliseum for some games as soon as next season, according to a Newsday report.
The team's new arena at Belmont Park won't be ready for about three years.
Newsday is reporting that Barclays Center officials would prefer all of the team's games next year be played at the Coliseum, but the Islanders and the league are not on board.
The Isles and Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment have until Jan. 30 to complete the opt-out process.
