Newsday: Food aid applications nearly double in Nassau, Suffolk

According to Newsday, new applications for SNAP aid on Long Island have nearly doubled compared to last year.
The information comes from Nassau and Suffolk social services departments.
News 12 has been told over the last three months, more than 17,000 Long Islanders filed for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
Last year, the figure was around 9,000.
Job losses due to the pandemic are the main reason.
