News 12's Paper Football Super Bowl II was a homecoming for sports director Kevin Maher, who went up against Emma Shanahan – the class champion from Academy Street Elementary School in Bayport.
Shanahan had the backing of her pom-pom, football fanatic classmates – but Maher, too, went to the school in the mid-1980s.
When the match started, it was Emma who wasted no time scoring.
At halftime, Maher was being buried by the pig-tailed phenom, 45-15.
Despite a second half rally, Maher was ultimately blown out by a final score of 72-51.
Emma joins Jacob Ortega, of River Avenue Elementary School, who won the inaugural Paper Football Super Bowl.
Maher hopes that third time will be the charm next year.
