A new push to get more students in Nassau vaccinated against COVID-19 gets underway Tuesday.
The county is hosting student vaccination days at Kennedy Memorial Park in Hempstead.
Officials say they hope this new event will get more people 12 and older vaccinated.
County officials say 45% of Nassau residents ages 12 to 15 have gotten the shot.
"So we are outperforming the state average for that population which is 39%, however, we need to do better and that's why we have these vaccination days," says Nassau County Executive Laura Curran.
The five-day student vaccination event runs through the end of the month.
“Walk-ins are available and you can make an appointment," says Curran. "We’re working with Northwell, which has the Pfizer vaccine, which is for 12 and over."
