Brookhaven residents have a new place to cool down just in time for this week’s heat.

Tuesday was the grand opening of the splash pad at Shirley Beach. The paved area with colorful sprinkles replaced a rusty and broken-down playground.

The town hopes it can be a place where families can enjoy quality time together.

The splash pad also gives kids a place to play when the beach is closed due to high levels of bacteria.
