Many Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) customers are expressing concerns over a billing format change that comes in the middle of the summer peak energy season.
LIPA Chairman Richard Kessel say the new bill, which was announced last month, is simpler and easier to read. He says LIPA has dropped its controversial fuel surcharge and other confusing rates, replacing them with a bill that only shows delivery costs, taxes and the price of electricity.
Many customers say the billing change comes at a bad time, and they add the new format doesn?t allow them to compare the rates to previous bills. LIPA officials claim only the structure of the bill has changed, and not the dollar amounts.
