New rules are in effect this weekend in Long Beach to keep crowds at bay as temperatures soar and the region continues to grapple with the coronavirus pandemic.
It marks the first weekend that the new restrictions are in place. The beach now closes at 8 p.m., and the boardwalk closes at 9 p.m. Non-residents are not being issued passes on weekends.
The changes come after previous summer weekends saw maskless revelers out in Long Beach, as News 12 has reported.
Long Beach Parks Commissioner Joe Brand says the response to the changes has been positive from residents, and says there's a smooth system in place. "They all knew that this step had to be taken, and so far we've had full compliance," he said.
Out-of-towners can still enjoy the beach with passes Monday through Thursday.
Social distancing is also required on the beach, and group sports are prohibited.
