News 12 Long Island has learned there is a new plan to control the deer population on Fire Island National Seashore. 
The National Park Service has approved a plan including fencing off spots, possibly using birth control and hunting. 
The park service says the deer population now threatens native plants and the sunken forest. 
Protesters had been pushing for deer control methods that did not include hunting.
