A new Netflix documentary is featuring Long Island native Gabby Petito’s story.
Gabby Petito’s parents have come together to tell their story about the Blue Point native and circumstances surrounding her 2021 disappearance.
“All the things you see are not necessarily true and we wanted to put our story out there to make sure the truth was told," says Nichole Schmidt, Gabby Petito’s mother.
The Netflix documentary features the young couple’s "van life" videos that were shot during their cross-country trip. Petito was later found dead in Wyoming.
Petito’s mother says she hopes telling her daughters story can help others who are victims of domestic violence or who are missing.
The Gabby Petito Foundation aims to connect people to resources and teach people about prevention in these types of cases.
"American Murder, Gabby Petito" will begin streaming Monday. Anyone who would like to report a missing person, can contact the national hotline number at 1-800-THELOST.
