A new program from Health and Human Services aims to help children that are dealing with the trauma of Superstorm Sandy and its aftermath.
Melissa Douglas is living in a rental home in Hicksville after her permanent residence in Seaford was flooded during Sandy. Douglas says the last year has been traumatizing for her and her children.
She says the program would benefit her three kids significantly in dealing with their anxiety over not having been able to return home yet.
In addition to providing emotional support, the program will also tutor children who fell behind academically in the months following Sandy.
