The man convicted of driving drunk and killing a flower girl and a limo driver on the Meadowbrook Parkway was arraigned on new charges Friday.
Martin Heidgen was indicted by a grand jury Thursday for allegedly tampering with a DNA test taken during his trial. Prosecutors say they believe he took saliva from another inmate to contaminate his test.
He is currently serving 18 years to life for second-degree murder for killing 7-year-old Katie Flynn and limo driver Stanley Rabinowitz. Heidgen was driving the wrong way on July 3, 2005 when he crashed into the limo, which was returning from a wedding.
If convicted on the charge of tampering with evidence during his murder trial, Heidgen could face another four years in prison. Heidgen?s new court-appointed attorney believes prosecutors are trying to get retaliation because they didn?t get the sentence they wanted. Prosecutors maintain that is not the case.
