An affordable housing complex, including 48 apartments, is coming to Inwood, officials say.
Officials say anyone who meets the income requirements can apply, but they are especially looking for seniors and veterans.
The idea for the Bayview Avenue Apartments came from Bishop Isaiah Moultrie and his wife Eulah.
Moultrie, 89, is a former Marine who also served as a pastor for over 50 years in Inwood and South Carolina.
The five-story, 48-unit apartment building is being built on the same land Moultrie bought 40 years ago.
It's also the same place he ran a food pantry and church.
At Wednesday's groundbreaking ceremony for the apartments, Bishop Moultrie's son, also named Isaiah, who is CEO of Inwood Property Development, spoke about the decades-long effort in making his family's longtime dream of bringing affordable housing to Inwood a reality.
"Inwood was a such a great place to grow up in...we were a very close-knit town and I want to try and preserve that and bring that into the next generation and give them that feeling that we had." the younger Moultrie said.
The Moultrie family is working with state and local leaders to ensure the apartments are affordable.
They'll be available for people earning up to 80% of the area's average income, about $71,000.
According to Inwood Property Development, applications will be accepted starting May 2025, and construction should be completed in July 2025.
They said anyone who meets the income requirements can apply, especially veterans and seniors
