A two-time Paralympic swimmer surprised her coach with a special medal Wednesday.
Anastasia Pagonis is blind and won gold and bronze medals at the Paralympics. Marc Danin has been her coach for two years and is now the new head swimming coach at Adelphi University.
Pagonis presented Danin with the Ikkos medal, which according to Team USA is for Olympic coaches who are "influential to an athlete's preparation and success."
Only one coach per sport gets the medal.
Pagonis says Danin was the only coach willing to take a chance on her after she lost her sight.
"He didn't take a chance, he took a full-on leap," Pagonis says.
Danin says Pagonis has become like a family member and they balance each other out.
