Residents are calling on the North Hempstead Town Board to deny a mosque’s expansion plan.
The Hillside Islamic Center is looking to create a third floor and 45 new parking spots.
Neighbors of the mosque say congregants double park in front of their homes, sometimes blocking their driveway.
They say an expansion, even one that has more parking, will attract new worshippers and make matters worse. Some say adding square footage on an already overcrowded corner of the community could exacerbate safety issues.
The town board voted to table the issue until their next meeting.
