Homeowners are worried that the Long Island Rail Road's East Side Access project will turn their communities into parking lots for trains.

The East Side Access project will bring LIRR trains to Grand Central Station. As part of the project, the LIRR wants to add pocket tracks to store trains in Thomaston and other Long Island communities. The plan also calls for extended tracks in some neighborhoods.

LIRR officials want to extend tracks in Port Washington, and current proposals would eliminate parking spots as a result. Neighbors say expansion means more commuters, creating an even greater need for the spots.

In Massapequa, officials plan to use preexisting space to store train cars between two tracks. Residents say they're relieved that the project won't take up any of their parking or intrude on their homes.
