Nassau County officials say they are awaiting approval from Massapequa Park officials to reinstall red light cameras at some village intersections.
Nassau County installed the cameras in Massapequa Park last week as a safety measure. But on Friday the county removed the cameras, saying it did not own the property they were on and wouldn't be able to process tickets the cameras produced.
County officials say state law requires red light cameras to be under county control, regardless of location. Massapequa Park Mayor James Altadonna, Jr. says, though the village could use the extra revenue the tickets generate, public safety is the priority.
