Both Nassau and Suffolk executives have declared a state of emergency in their respective counties.
In Nassau, Bruce Blakeman says thousands were without power this morning and more outages are expected throughout the day. He is urging residents to be prepared.
"Make sure you have a flashlight with good batteries. Make sure you power up your cellphone so that it's fully charge and your iPad. Make sure you have water and food. And make sure you have all the supplies you need in the event that you have to stay in your home for an extended period of time," said Blakeman.
In Suffolk, Ed Romaine says residents should stay vigilant throughout the day, even if it appears the storm is dying down.

"The rain has not been as severe as we thought, the wind has backed off for the moment, but we expect it to pick back up again. This is something that's not going to be over until later tonight," said Romaine.
They urged Long Islanders to stay off the roads.
