Nassau police are warning about a new scam targeting seniors.
Police say people are approaching elderly victims and asking for change, help fixing a flat tire and offering jewelry or gifts. While the victim is distracted, people are stealing jewelry off of their body or items from their car.
Nassau police say there have been several incidents across the county.
"We all have to be very diligent," says Plainview resident Judy Aronowitz.
"It's terrible. It's so awful," says resident Ellie Kaye.
Police say it's important to be alert and aware of your surroundings. They also say to make sure you lock your car.
"It's just a shame we have to live our lives suspicious of everybody," says Aronowitz. "I've given people change but now I might think twice about doing it."
News 12 reached out to Nassau police to learn more. They said no one was available for an interview.
