A Nassau police officer accused of stealing $200,000 from a fellow officer was arrested and charged with grand larceny.

According to Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney, Leonard Cagno, 39, of Oakdale, solicited an investment in his private company, BW Media Consulting from an officer who was “recovering from a serious illness.”

According to a release from the DA:

“Cagno allegedly falsely claimed the funds would be used as an investment in the business. It was subsequently discovered that Cagno allegedly and unlawfully spent the victim’s money on various personal expenses, including purchasing a vehicle, paying off credit card debt, making payments towards his home, subscribing to OnlyFans, gambling, and dining at restaurants.”

He apparently spent the entire $200,000 in two months. Cagno was arrested on Sept. 17 and released on his own recognizance.

A statement from Nassau police said: “Cagno is no longer employed by the Nassau County Police Department.”

“The allegations here represent a shocking abuse of the essential trust that exists between fellow police officers” said District Attorney Tierney in a prepared statement. “This defendant is alleged to have preyed upon that trust for his own financial gain, and in so doing, violated one of the most important bonds in law enforcement.

Anyone else who may have been victimized by Cagno is asked to call the Suffolk DA office at 631-853-4626.
