Nassau police found a suspected robber hiding under the lid of a neighbor's turtle-shaped sandbox after a Valley Stream home invasion.
A couple living on Rockaway Parkway run a medical supply shop in their basement. According to police, an armed man and woman invaded the home while the couple's baby and multiple customers were present. The getaway plan failed when the female thief, who police say does not have a license, crashed the homeowners' car into a fence. After running away on foot, police caught up to the suspects in nearby yards. The female burglar was hiding in the sandbox.
All of the stolen goods, including more than $1,600, wallets and cell phones, were returned. Police say the robbers, who are from Queens, knew about the home-based store. They are still searching for two additional conspirators.
