Nassau police say an early morning crash in Garden City left several people with serious injuries and Stewart Avenue closed for hours.
Officers were called to Stewart Avenue near Nassau Boulevard just after 5 a.m. where they found airbags deployed, a rear bumper ripped off and a windshield shattered.
A witness told News 12 that the incident involved only one car. Police did not immediately release details surrounding the crash or number of victims.
"It looked like it had hit the tree. The car was completely demolished it looked like," said Joan Schmidt, of Garden City.
Schmidt, who lives on Stewart Avenue, says it's a busy intersection and multiple crashes have happened there over the years.
Police say that one person has been arrested in connection with the crash. They did not identify that person or list any charges.
Stewart Avenue reopened at 3 p.m.
