Nassau PBA: Officers save 8-year-old girl who tried to walk into traffic with knife in hand

The PBA says the child was threatening to harm herself and she was taken to the hospital to be evaluated.

Two Nassau County police officers are being hailed as heroes for saving an 8-year-old girl.
The Nassau Police Benevolent Association says the child tried to walk into traffic in Mineola with a butcher knife in her hand.
Officers Andrew Smith and Christopher Riebl were able to distract the girl and pull the knife from her hand.
The PBA says the child was threatening to harm herself and she was taken to the hospital to be evaluated.
The officers were named the Legislative Top Cops for June.
