A Nassau County police officer was honored Monday for his efforts to save a life while off-duty.
Ryan Paterson came across a two-car crash in Massapequa and saw a vehicle burst into flames with the driver inside.
Police say Paterson pulled the driver to safety just before the car exploded.
"It feels really great to get honored like this, but it just goes to show you that I believe that all of my brothers and sister would do the exact same thing - on or off duty," says Paterson.
Paterson was named the Nassau Legislative Top Cop for April 2022.
