The Nassau County Legislature discussed a bill Monday that would further restrict where convicted sex offenders can live and change how they are monitored.

The proposed law would bar registered sex offenders from living within 2,000 feet of their victim's home or workplace. Lawmakers are also pushing for level 3 offenders to wear GPS monitoring devices while on probation. The legislature heard testimony from a mother who says her 8-year-old was molested by her best friend?s father. After serving four and one-half months in prison, the mother says he moved back into his home, which was a couple of blocks away from her house.

Lawmakers will vote on the measure at the end of October.
