Nassau County Executive Laura Curran proclaimed Wednesday, July 3 Anders Lee Day for the newly re-signed Islanders captain.
Anders Lee, who has played his entire NHL career with the Islanders, signed a new seven-year deal with the Isles on July 1.
Curran, wearing an Islanders hat, posted a video to Twitter making the announcement.
"It's his birthday on July 3, he just signed a seven-year contract, he's going to be back with the team - they had a fantastic season last year, we're looking for even better this year," Curran said in the video. "So tomorrow, July 3, Anders Lee Day. It's official in Nassau County. Go Islanders - Yes! Yes! Yes!"
Lee replied to the county executive on Twitter and thanked her for her support.
It's not the first time Curran has publicly displayed her support of the team. She even wore an Islanders jersey during an
Ask the County Executive appearance on News 12 Long Island earlier this year.
