Nassau officials are delaying a plan to reassess property values.
The county Department of Assessment was supposed to do it next year, but it says it’s been undergoing a "systematic review" of the way it determines property values.
Acting Assessor Jim Davis tells News 12 Long Island that it’s in the best interest of property owners to keep an assessment freeze in place until the department can ensure that property owners feel as if they are "paying their fair share."
Critics say the current system is unfair because it benefits residents who actively grieve their taxes each year.
