The T20 Cricket World Cup will be coming to Long Island this coming summer.
Nassau County won a bid to host the international sporting event at Eisenhower Park.
The International Cricket Counsel tapped the county to host the event after New York City’s proposal to host the tournament was defeated by heated opposition.
“We made it clear right from the start that this is something we want to do,” says Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman.
The county will build a temporary 34,000-seat stadium in Field 6A near the aquatic center.
County officials say hundreds of construction jobs will be created and the event itself will boost the local economy with tens of millions of dollars.
Constructions of the stadium is expected to begin in February.
Nassau County will be sharing the hosting duties with two other locations in Florida and Texas.
