Nassau County opens warming centers during weekend freeze

The weekend frigid temperatures are downright dangerous, according to officials.
Staying outside too long in the deep freeze can trigger frostbite or hypothermia.
There is help for Long Islanders who need shelter from the cold.

Nassau County is opening a warming center at Cantiague Park Ice Rink in Hicksville. It will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday.
There will also be a warming center at Mitchel Field Administration Center in Uniondale will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In Suffolk you can call the Social Services Emergency Services Unit at 631-854-9100.
