Nassau's fallen police officers were honored at a solemn memorial service Thursday.
The event was a tribute to all members of the county's police department who have died, including those lost in the line of duty.
The ceremony closed with the reading of the names of the 40 police officers who died in the line of duty.
"We know what we signed up for, whether we're fighting criminals or an invisible virus," says Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder. "Those 40 heroes know the risk and proudly served their department and the people of Nassau County. This is why it is so important that we never forget them."
