As Nassau looks ahead to the start of phase four on Wednesday, officials announced a concerning trend among those newly testing positive across the county.

On Tuesday, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran reported that there were 35 new COVID-19 cases reported in the last 24 hours.

Curran says over the past two or three weeks, the county has consistently seen 15 to 25% of those with positive results coming from out of state.

“If you are coming to visit Nassau County, we welcome you, but if you are coming from another state where there is a rising number of cases, take some time to quarantine and get tested,” says Curran.

Curran assured residents that the Health Department’s contact tracing team is doing its job well, and the key to keeping the numbers down is tracing and isolating.

Officials also stressed the need for residents to continue to test for other deadly diseases, like breast or colon cancer.

“Since the pandemic began, our residents have been urged to delay routine mammogram – we encourage now to come out and get tested,” says Curran.

Since the beginning of the pandemic – health screenings have gone down between 86% and 94%.

The county says it will continue to actively promote breast cancer screenings.
