Nassau officials say for the 15th day in a row, hospitalizations are down in the county – bringing the total to 1,292. Meanwhile, ICU patients are 374, and 152 patients are on ventilators.
The county says it has ramped up viral testing at FQHC sites including Elmont, Hempstead, and Freeport and are adding Westbury to the list beginning tomorrow.
Nassau County Executive Laura Curran says she has had conversations with Gov. Andrew Cuomo and other regional leaders to talk about a reopening strategy for suburban communities outside the city.
However, officials urged that Nassau County's timeline for reopening will be different from the upstate New York area.
"We have to remember that Nassau County has [the] highest infection rate outside of New York City. Our strategy will be different to reopen," says Curran.
Curran says officials are working together to be sure that businesses are ready when the time comes with proper protective equipment and procedures in place.
"We want to make sure we don't have a spike in infections," says Curran.
Gov. Cuomo is expected to make announcement about schools during his Friday briefing.
