Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman is asking everyone to prepare for the worst and be smart during heavy rainstorm expected overnight across the region.
"Use common sense. There may be power outages. If there are, make sure you have a flashlight. Make sure you've charged your phone or your iPad. If there are any downed wires, stay away from them, call 911. If power goes out, and you still have your phone, call PSEG," Blakeman said.
News 12 forecasters say to expect strong thunderstorms between midnight and 7 a.m.
Blakeman also urges people to stay off the roads. He added highway crews will work around the clock to clear roads if wind knocks down trees and power lines.
Crews were also clearing storm drains to prevent flooding.
