A Nassau-based AIDS charity is adding on a new challenge by combating hunger in the region. Dale House and its founder Dale Anthony say they were inspired to take action and begin a food drive and distribution campaign after examining the poverty level of Nassau County. Five thousand bags of free food were distributed to the needy in Hempstead after Dale House made a public plea for donations. Stony Brook University and Island Harvest responded with donations of canned goods and non-perishable items that made the handouts possible. Recipients say the good deed is filling their stomachs, and they are thankful. ?I?m grateful,? said one recipient. ?It brings tears to my eyes.?
