A Nassau County community is pulling for the recovery of the NYPD officer who was shot and injured in the line of duty.
Officer Brian Moore has lived in Massapequa for his entire life. He was shot in the head Saturday night while confronting a man in Queens, officials say.
The 25-year-old officer was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
Neighbors of Moore describe him as a funny and kind man who was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Joni Olton is one of many neighbors who heard about the shooting on Saturday. She says Moore was supposed to go to her house to watch the Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather boxing match.
"I was hysterical," Olton said. "I called my daughter right away because she is very close with Brian. She was already on her way to the hospital."
Moore lives in Massapequa with his father, who is a retired NYPD sergeant. Neighbors say Moore's mother and sister live in Suffolk County.
Moore graduated from Plainedge High School in 2007. News 12 is told he took the police exam at 17 because he wanted to follow in his father's footsteps.
