Children at Nassau BOCES Spring Break got hands-on instruction on how fires were started during earlier times.
The program was scheduled to happen outdoors, but was moved indoors to the old Marshal Fields estate in Caumsett Park because of the rain.
Organizers say they wanted the kids to learn how to use the technology of our forefathers to start fires, drill holes and make things. The kids also got their faces painted in recognition of an old Native American tradition.
