The 49-year-old nanny who died trying to save a drowning boy in Syosset has been identified as a Brooklyn woman.
Police say the nanny jumped into a pool at a house on Flo Drive to save the 3-year-old boy she was watching. That boy slipped out of his lifejacket before entering the pool.
The boy's mother came out of the house, pulled her son from the water and got others to help rescue the nanny.
The woman was transported to North Shore University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The boy was taken to Schneider's Children's Hospital and regained consciousness. He is recovering and doctors say they are confident he will be OK.
