? A North Hempstead town official is facing rape charges after he allegedly had sex with a 16-year-old girl he met online.

Oceanside resident Owen Sinclair, 46, is accused of having sex with the girl, twice taking her to the Capri Lynbrook Motor Inn. Sinclair is the deputy commissioner of finance for the Town of North Hempstead. Police say the girl, from Brooklyn, met Sinclair through Craigslist.

According to investigators, the girl lied about her age and told Sinclair she was 18. Police say they arrested Sinclair when he and the girl pulled into the Plantation Motel in Long Beach Tuesday. Sinclair allegedly turned the car around when he saw a police car in the parking lot. Police say they pulled the two over after they exceeded the speed limit. The girl also allegedly lied to police about her age. She was charged with false impersonation. The Town of North Hempstead says Sinclair, who has only been working in his current capacity for a few weeks, will be fired because of the arrest.
