A North Bellmore woman is accused of physically attacking her 87-year-old grandmother Sunday as her young daughter looked on.
Rachelle Elliot, 23, pleaded not guilty to assault and endangering the welfare of a child in court Monday. Police say Elliot was drunk when she went home to her grandmother Mary Brody?s house around 9 p.m. She wanted to leave with her 3-year-old daughter, but Brody tried to stop her and call Elliot?s mother.
?The granddaughter took away the phone, hit her in the face with it, knocked out her lower teeth and caused some bruising and lacerations,? says Nassau Police Sgt. Richard Callahan. ?She dragged her into a bedroom and put a pillow over her face to stop her from yelling."
Brody was treated at Nassau University Medical Center and released. A judge issued an order of protection to keep Elliot away from her grandmother and her daughter. She is being held on $40,000 cash bail or $80,000 bond.
